Surviving With Fear at Night.

In 2015, most of the students in Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC) love to go out at night for entertainments such as karaoke, “yumcha”, chit-chatting at the nearest cafe or even work for part-time jobs until late night. You might be thinking “The risk of involving in crime cases would surely be reduced if we go out in a group”, don’t you? Think twice before you answer to yourself.

Have a look at this up-to-date crime rates in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

A crime case happened on the night of 4th July 2015 at Bulatan Pahang. A lady was on her way home from Kuala Lumpur city to Setapak after work. This lady was riding a motorbike when she was involved in the robbery case. She was assaulted by the robbers on her head and neck using some sharp weapons and suffered severe injuries on her brain and throat. Unfortunately, she passed away the next morning.

Does this news make you question your safety in the night? None of us would like to be the next victim in any crimes especially those that often happen in the night such as robbery, rape, molest, drug abuse, kidnap and so on.
Therefore, here are some general guidelines to follow in order to prevent yourself from being the next victim :

  • §  Do not consume alcohol or drugs because it can impair your judgment. If you haven't already set a few social standards, do so and stick to them. Don't allow an overly aggressive pursuer change your mind.
  • §  Do not take alcohol (or drugs for that matter) from people you don’t know and trust. You might think that you are aware of what the content is and what it will do to you, but it only takes a second for someone to add additional drugs or other substances into the drink to make you much more intoxicated and vulnerable.
  • §  Make sure to stay together in a group and look after each other.
  • §  Try NOT to go out alone at night. Avoid unfamiliar and secluded areas, if possible.
  • §  Do not accept rides offered by strangers, and do not respond to comments from strangers on the street.
  • §  Be sure to have a cell phone with you just in case you need to make an emergency phone call.
  • §  If you need a ride home or the person that was supposed to drive you home consumed alcohol or drugs, call your family members for a ride.

Your safety is what we concerned and it had already turned the RED lights on.
Please take care of yourself whenever and wherever you are.

**Bear in mind : No matter how much you protect yourself, when an individual wants to commit the crime, he/she would definitely figure out million ways to do it.
