Safety While Taking Public Transport




Most of the residents, especially those who live in Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley would prefer to use public transport to travel from one place to another place as it is convenient and cheaper. There is a variety of public transport such as bus, monorail, light rail transit train (LRT), cab and others. By taking public transport, it can help one to reduce his or her monthly expenses as he or she does not need to pay for the petrol or the toll fee. Besides, it also helps to reduce the time consume for travelling if you are taking LRT, KTM or monorail as you can easily avoid the heavy traffic.


Public transport makes one’s life easier. However, there are still some safety issues that need to take into account when you are taking public transport as dangerous are always be around. For example,a bank officer was being molested by a man at Masjid Jamek LRT station recently (Read more at: http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2015/07/26/Prasarana-tracks-down-molester/). Therefore, to avoid from becoming the next victim, here are some personal safety tips for you!




Safety Tips for Train Users
· Stay with the others. Do not get on a coach which is far from the crowd.

· For ladies, please board on the ladies coach if there is any (usually applicable for KTM).

· Keep all your belongings on your lap or if you are standing, make sure you are standing against the wall of the train.

· Always check on the position of emergency exit and also the emergency help button.

· Always allow the passengers inside to get out of the train first before you boarding the train so that accident could be avoided.

Safety Tips for Bus Users

· Try to know when the bus is coming so that you do not need to wait too long at the bus stop as sometimes you might be alone.

· Do not wait alone at the bus stop during night time.

· Try to wait at a bus stop where there is someone else waiting.

Safety Tips for Cab Users

· Always note down the car plat number and also the driver’s name when you are taking a cab.

· If you are calling for a cab, always double confirm with the details such as driver’s name and car plat number before you get into the cab.

· Prepare enough amount of money for the fare before leaving your home so that you do not need to take out your purse when in the cab.

Last but not least, always aware of your surrounding no matter where you are. Try to avoid using mobile devices when you are waiting for a public transport. We want you to stay ALLways and alWAYS Safe!
