How To Stay Away From Carjacking?

Nowadays, there are many crime cases happen in Malaysia. According to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, there are 128, 544 crime case had reported to police in year 2014. Therefore, Malaysian should pay high attention toward this issue.

Carjacking is a cases that always happen around us, especially for people who own a car as well as students. One example of carjacking scheme, the culprits follow your car to a parking lot and wait for you to leave your car. They then remove your license plate and wait you back to parking lot. Once you drive away, they will follow you, then, they will wait until the right timing, they will overhaul you, showing your license plate. They present your license plate under the guise that it has fallen off your car.

The example show the carjacking is a dangerous issue for people who own a car. For university or college students, majority of them will own a car. It is also dangerous issue for them. Therefore, here will provide some tips for avoid carjacking.


There are 9 tips to avoid carjacking:

1. Check your car petrol and keep your car full of petrol. 
Check your tires before you drive.

2. Lock your doors when you get into your car. Try to make it part as your driving habit.

3. Travel the most direct route to your destination. You can use the application such as, Waze and Google Maps before you depart on your trip, the application will shows the correct direction for you. This can avoid carjacker because you know the correct direction to your destination. If you asking direction from someone else, this will draw car theft’s attention and they will following you due to you not clear about to that area.

4. Do not tail-gate. This enables you to get around the car in front of you if it stalls or if someone suspicious approaches your car.

5. Stay in your car. If someone horn to you at a traffic light or stop sign, please stay in your car. This can avoid another person drive over your car. For example, once you get out of your car (with the engine still running), another people who follow behind you will get in your car away. When you realize it is a car scheme, both car already dive away.

6. If the car theft manage to get into your car and threat to you, you can run your car into the first immobile object you can find, such as a fire hydrant, stop sign, or in front of your car. This action able to attract attention of people around there, Maybe someone will report to police. This action can save your life.

7. Get out from your car as quickly as possible and run to the crowed area. The theft will not dare to  hurt you at that area. Then you can call the police.

8. Install an old fashion alarm switch on the floorboard at your left foot and connect it. When the car theft threat you to give your car to them, you can use your leg to press the switch, then your car alarm will ring and attract people or police’s attention around the area.

9. Be careful in areas of poverty or enormous wealth. Car crime usually happen in the area of poverty. Therefore, please be careful when you drive over that area.
